Elizabeth Carpenter, widow of Captain the Honble. Charles Carpenter, R.N., who departed this life at her house at Bowness, the 23rd day of February 1842 in the 73rd years. of her age. This highly respected lady was mother of George 3rd Earl of Tyrconnel, aide-de-camp to Field Marshal His Royal Highness the Duke of York, Commander-in-Chief, he died at Wilna on the 20th December 1812 while employed in a military diplomatic capacity with the Rus- sian armies from excessive zeal and consequent fatigue, in the pursuit of the French forces under Buonaparte; by his talents', manners, and personal advantages he had acquired the regard of all who knew him, and the Prince Kutusoff erected a monument to his memory in the church of the reformed religion at Wilna.. The trust in God alone was the support of his much loving mother under this heavy affliction. He was succeeded by his brother John Delaval 4th Earl of Tyrconnel who erected this tablet to the memory of the best of mothers.
