Burton In Kendal (E. altar tomb). Here lie the Remains of John Gathorne late of Burton in
Kendal in the County of Westmorland Gent. who died L on Friday the 26 Day of
February in the years. of our Lord 1773 aged 64, a tender Husband, an indulgent
Parent and a Sincere Friend.
Kendal ( W. altar tomb, rail). [ Skull and cross-bones ]. Sacred memory of the Reverend .
William Nicholson, curate of Old Hutton in this County, Who died the 17th day
of April 1713 Aged 44. And of Sarah his Wife who died the 23d day of June 1781
Aged 71. And of their several Children, namely, Susanna who died the 12th day
of April 1806 Aged 75, Eleanor 19th July, 1814, 81, Elizabeth 18th. July
1741 Aged 7. Edward 2nd January 1803, 67, Sarah l0th March 1814, 76, William
31st March 1772, 33, Mary 22nd March 1823, 83, Anna 22nd March 1769, 26,
Also Sacred memory of Mr. Edward Gathorne of Old Hutton, Gentleman, and of Eleanor his
Wife, the Father & Mother of the above named Sarah the Wife of the said
Revd. William Nicholson. May they rest in Peace.
Kirkby Lonsdale (In. S). Sacred memory of Elizabeth Gathorne who died July the 4th, 1831 in the 86th
y. of her age in May 1786, she was left a widow by the late Richard Gathorne
of Kirkby Lonsdale Esqre. with three infant children John, Isabel, and
Eliza. Eliza m. John Moore of Grimeshill Esqre. and died September the 23rd
1812, leaving a son and a daughter John, who was in holy Orders, died March the
l0th 1831 leaving three daus. and two sons by his late wife Jane the daughter of
the Reverend . R. Housman of Lancaster. Isabel who m. John Hardy Esqre. Recorder
of Leeds by whom she has three sons and eight daus. now living, has, this
26th day of January 1832, caused this tablet to be erected as a frail
memorial of her filial affection and of the veneration in which she holds
the memory of a beloved mother, who, while fulfilling relative duty with
Christian meekness and fidelity, counted all things but loss for the
excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus her Lord.

the remains of Isabel Gathorne Widow of the late Reverend . Miles Gathorne of
Overton in Lancashire She died November . 30th 1764 aged 69 years. Also of John
Gathorne late of London, Merchant, Son of the said Miles and Isabel
Gathorne, He died August 4th 1774 aged 48 years. Also of Richard Gathorne, late of
Kirkby Lonsdale, Esquire, only Brother of the said John Gathorne, He died May
16th 1786 Aged 56 years. Also of The Reverend John Gathorne only Son of the said
Richard and Elizabeth his Wife, He died March l0th 1831 on his 51st Birthday.
Also of the said Elizabeth Gathorne who died July 4th 1831 in the 86th years. of
her age.
