Barton (Chancel floor, brass securely fastened on the slab 1886; note per her daughter Mary widow of Rear Admiral Hugh Robinson). Sacred memory of Ann Myers, Wife of the Reverend . Thomas Myers, Curate of this Parish, and Rector of Croglin, in the County of Cumberland, and Daughter of Richard Wordsworth of Sockbridge in the Countyof Westmoreland Esqre., who departed this life on the 17th day of February 1787, in the 53rd years. of her Age. (& see infra. under Wordsworth as to her father's brass).

Barton (S. Winder chapel,) To the memory of Anne daughter of Jno. Gale Esqr. Merchant of Whitehaven & wife of Jno. Wordsworth Esqre. of Penrith in the County of Cumberland. A disposition eminently benevolent, lively affections regulated by a sound judgment & tempered with the gentlest manners endeared her to numerous friends & procured for her general love and esteem. It is needless to dwell upon the care and fidelity with which she discharged her conjugal duties, this is too well and tenderly remembered by the survivor, but it may be usefull to record the patience with which she endured a severe trial, arid it is consolatory to express a hope that she is now enjoying the reward of her long suffering. She was born July 3rd 1759, & died August 5th 1815.

Barton (S. Winder chapel). To Memory of John Wordsworth Esqre, of Penrith who departed this life Septr. 22nd 1819 aged 64 years. It pleased the Almighty, giver of all good, to bless him with affections lively, benevolent, and faithful. He was sincere and zealous in private Friendship and prompt and active in the offices of Charity, which inestimable qualities rendered him beloved and respected through life and lamented in Death.

Barton (S. Winder chapel). John Wordsworth Esqre. married secondly Elizabeth daughter of Isaac & Mary Littledale of Whitehaven. She died on June 6th 1863, S. P. and was buried at Walton near Liverpool.

Barton (In. floor brass). Sacred memory of Richard Wordsworth Esquire of Sockbridge. . . . . . . who died 2 . . . June 1760.* (Buried 27 June, 1760 Parish Register Per Reverend C. B. Norcliffe). * Grandfather of the Poet, who states of him that he "was the first of the name who came into Westmorland." See "Robinson of the White House, Appleby," London 1874, p. 31. This brass has been invisible since 1860 owing to the new flagging then laid down. Mr. Hodson writes about it to Mr. Bellasis 13 Augt. 1887, " I am sorry to say that I know nothing of the brass plate to the memory of the father of Ann Myers. I have never seen it, but can quite think it is under the present floor. When our heating apparatus was put in, a drain had to be cut across the west end of the chancel for the hot water pipes to cross, and it was then found that there was a second floor of flags quite perfect, and about six inches lower than the present floor. So that this brass may very easily be under the present floor and on the lower one. If we knew the approximate position of the said brass a flag or two could easily be lifted to find it. There is no soil between the two floors the upper one is laid on low walls." Mr. Norcliffe proposes to have it unearthed.

Grasmere (N). In memory of John Carter of Loughrigg Holme, Ambleside, who died 28th January 1863 aged 67 years. He was the confidential clerk and much valued friend of the late William Wordsworth Esqre. Poet Laureate, of Rydal Mount, with whose family he was conected by mutual ties of gratitude and sincere affection for a period of fifty years.

Grasmere (N). In affectionate remembrance of James Dixon, born 19th July 1799, died 4th April 1878. He was for thirty three years. the faithful servant of Mr. and Mrs. Wordsworth of Rydal Mount and for upwards of half a century the much valued friend of their family.

Grasmere (E. within rail, nine head-stones, two flat stones, and seven foot stones, with yew tree hard by, planted in 1817). 1. Here lie the Remains of Catharine daughter of William & Mary Wordsworth. She was born September 6th 1808 and died June 4th 1812. "Suffer the little Children to come unto me and forbid them not for of Such is the Kingdom of God." C. W. 2. Here lieth the Body of Thomas the Son of William & Mary Wordsworth. He died on the lst of December A.D. 1812. Six months to six years added He remain'd Upon this sinful earth by sin unstain'd, O blessed Lord, whose mercy then remov'd A Child whom every eye that look'd on lov'd, Support us; teach us calmly to resign What we possess'd and now is wholly thine. T. W. 3. In memory of William, infant son of William & Fanny Wordsworth, born July 13th and died at Carlisle October 5th 1851. "He shall gather the lambs with his arm and shall carry them in his bosom." Isaiah, c. 4, v. ii. 4. William Wordsworth, 1883. 5. Dorothy Wordsworth, 1855. 6. (Flat tomb). Near the Graves of two young Children, removed from a family to which through Life she was devoted, Here lies the body of Sarah Hutchinson, The beloved Sister and faithful Friend of Mourners who have caused this Stone to be erected with an earnest wish that their own Remains may be laid by her side, and a humble hope that through Christ they may together be made Partakers of the same blessed Resurrection. She was born at Penrith 1st January 1775, and died at Rydal 23rd June 1835, In Fulfilment of that Wish are now gathered near her the Remains of William Wordsworth, B. at Cockermouth 7th April,1770, died at Rydal 23rd April 1850. And of Dorothy Wordsworth, B. at Cockermouth 25th December 1771, died at Rydal 25th January 1855. And finally of Mary Wordsworth and Sister of Sarah Hutchinson, B. at Penrith August 16th 1770, died at Rydal Mount January 17th 1859. 7. William Wordsworth. 1850, Mary Wordsworth, 1859. 8. (With paschal lamb). Dora Quillinan 9th day of July 1847. "Him that cometh to me 1 will in no wise cast out." St. John . 6th Chap. 37th Ver. 9. † Edward Quillinan, B. at Oporto August 12th 1791, died at Loughrigg Holme July 8th 1851. 10. Jemima Anne died Quillinan died May 25th 1822 Aged 27. Near this Grave rests Dora the daughter of William and Mary Wordsworth of Rydal Mount, Wife of Edward Quillinan. She was born the 16th of August 1804, Married 11th of May 1841. She died on the 9th of July 1847. "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life." St. John xi. xxv. E. Q. 11. † S. born m. Rotha Quillinan, died at Loughrigg Holme, Rydal, 1st February 1876 aged 54. "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God."

Grasmere (E). Sacred memory of John Wordsworth, staff assistant surgeon to her Majesty's forces in the Ionian Islands; only son of the late Richard Wordsworth of Sockbridge in this county, and nephew of William Wordsworth of Rydal Mount. He died at Ambleside on the 18th day of August 1846 aged 31 years. much lamented.

Grasmere (In. pillar S). To the memory of William Wordsworth, a true philosopher and poet, who, by the special gift and calling of Almighty God, whether he discoursed on man or nature, failed not to lift up the heart to holy things, tired not of maintaining the cause of the poor and simple, and so, in perilous times was raised up to be a chief minister not only of noblest poesy but of high and sacred truth, this memorial is placed here by his friends and neighbours in testimony of respect, affection and gratitude anno mdcccli.

Grasmere (E. rail). † Sacred memory of Charles Frederick Younge of Forrest side in this parish. He was the youngest son of the late Simon Andrews Younge of Sheffield. He died on the I7th day of November . 1866 aged 74 years. I. Corinthians xv. 17.
