In memory of Stephen Bellas who during a period of forty years. exercised the arduous and useful profession of a schoolmaster in the respective parishes of Long Marton, Bolton, and Kirkbythore, this stone was erected by several of his pupils as a testimony of their gratitude for the benefits derived from his instruction. In fulfilment of a wish expressed by the above General Bellasis in 1802 this stone is put up in 1886 by Edward Bellasis, Esquire, Lancaster Herald, son of Mr. Serjeant Bellasis, J.P. for Middlesex & Westminster, to the memories of the latter's father Dr. Bellasis & of William Bellasis. (S). Sacred memory of William Bland of Knock who died July 22nd 1819 aged 58 years. A loving husband and affectionate father, a sincere friend and obliging neighbour. His life was happy and his death serene from a well-grounded hope of Eternal Glory through the merits of his Redeemer. Elizabeth, wife of William Bland died December 20th 1845 aged 75. Their son Thomas placed this stone to the memory of his dear Parents, presuming to hope that tho' parted for the moment they shall meet again in eternal Felicity.

Burton, according to Hill, who notes a chevron between 3 owls, for Thomas B. Knt. as on seals of 15 thcentury in British Museum, and see Coll. Arms, Vinc. 127, 28 (B. of Co. Leic)., but ? (Dawes, see Church Notes vol. I, 87). VIII. (ar.) bend engrailed sa. (Radcliffe, says Hill, according to N. &. B. it is Burton ?).
