Ward Appleby St Lawrence

(N. aisle). Sacred memory of the Reverend . John Waller A.M. Z7 years. head master of the free grammar school in this town and Rector of Sulhampstead, Berks., ob. 26th April 1822 aged 56, also Mrs. Ann Waller his widow and one of the neices of the late John Ward, Esqre. 19 years. deputy sheriff of this county, she died 26th August 1826 aged 50.

(N. aisle). Here lieth the body of Mr. John Webster & four of his children which he had by his second wife Mrs. Margaret Ward, daughter of Mr. Thomas Ward late of Rigmaden Hall in the parish of Kirkby Lonsdale, he died I. in the 83d years. of his age & in ye years. of our Lord 1714.

And of Henry James infant son of the Reverend J. T. Ward & Elizabeth his wife who died May 9th 1843. Also of Elizabeth Sarah third daughter of the Reverend J. (In ,Choir.. S). S. B. Memory of James Thornborrow Ward, 33 years. Vicar of this Parish. A Magistrate for the Counties of Cumberland & Westmorland B. June 12th 1799. died April 13th, 1863.

Ward Beetham

(W). Here lie the Remains of William, Mary and Elizabeth, Son and daughters of William and Elizabeth Ward Formerly of Haverbrack. Also Elizabeth wife of William Ward Who died I. at Mill Lane School, Old Swan, West Derby, near Liverpool February 22d 1830, Aged 69 years. She was a diligent, faithful, loving Wife; A tender, indulgent Parent ; A sincere Friend; and a pious Christian. She lived an example worthy the imitation of her Sex. Her Husband erected this Stone As a Testimony of Gratitude to her Memory. Also of William Ward, Husband of the above who died the 23rd day of January 1853 at 69 King St. Whitehaven Aged 90 years. , for 27 years. Gardener to the late Daniel Wilson Esqr., of Dallam Tower, and 30 years. Master of the National School, Old Swan, near Liverpool.

(E. flat tomb, pallet, brushes). Here lieth James Ward, artist, who departed life December XV MDCCCL in his LXVII years. and was interred here at his own request.

(S. Flat stone, N. of Battersby altar tomb).1 In Memory of Simon Battersby of Biggins only son of Simon Battersby of South House, Horton, Ribblesdale Gentn. B. 1660 died March 25th 1730. Dorothy Lightbourne his wife born June 2nd, 1659 died May 29th 1717. Jane Foxcroft wife of John Foxcroft of Holm House, Whittington Gent. and only sister of Simon Battersby Janry. 24th 1635 d. (blank). Edward Battersby son of Simon Battersby born May 2nd 1685 died April 15th 1750. Margaret Ward his wife born Decbr. 18th 1693 died Decbr. 31st 1770.

(N. W) . In memory of Henry Ward of Kirkby Lonsdale who died Oct. 3rd 1877 aged 59 y. also of Martha, wife of the above who died November 6th 1875 aged 47 years. also of John Ward of Kirkby Lonsdale, who died April 23rd 1870 aged 59 years.

Arms on 5 shields, (over arch). i Chequy, fess (Clifford); (dexter) ii. fess between 6 crosses (Beauchamp) impaling 6 annulets 3, 2, I, a crescent for difference (Musgrave), iii. Musgrave (without crescent) impaling cross flory (Ward); (sinister) iv. maunch (Wharton) impaling lion rampant (Stapleton). v. on fess 3 cushions (Warcop of Smardale).* * See Reverend F. J. Hodgson's learned article; Cumbd. & Westmd. Antiq. & Arch. Soc .Trans. p. i vol. iv, pp. 230-2, with illustrations of the above, & also Hill MSS. vii, 183. Hill observes on the above heraldry :–"Evidently the arms of the benefactors at the rebuilding of the steeple." The Beauchamp and Warcop coats, however, he (or Machell) labels Layton of Sexhowe in Cleveland, and Hutton respectively; and (it is considered,) erroneously.

Ward Lowther

In sure and certain hope of a Joyful Resurrection. Here resteth the body of Ann Ward, who departed this life May 6th 1825 in the 26th years. of her age. Blessings attend the dear departed shade; We loved her living and lament her dead; Though she is gone her memory shall remain, Our loss, we hope, is her Eternal gain.

Ward Orton

(E. altar tomb). In memory of the Reverend . Anthony Ward, Vicar of Eastrington in the East Riding of Yorkshire and son of Thomas and Eliza Ward of Orton. He died at Eastrington Oct. 26th A.D. 1840 aged 52 and at his own request was interred here; he was a man of meek and kind disposition, a pious and sound divine. Mary Ward his widow and eldest daughter of the Reverend Robert Milner, Vicar of Orton died the 25th September 1854 and was buried here aged 62.

(S. altar tomb). Here lieth the Body of the Reverend . Richard Ward, Memory of A. Late Vicar of Warcop Aged 57 years. He died September . 3, 1714. He was Incumbent 29 years. Also the Body of the Reverend . Matthias Ward, B.A., Son of the above Richard Ward, Late Vicar of Warcop 49 years. who died July 30th 1784 Aged 75 years. (Crest on shield: A (? Wolf’s) head erased).
