Fleming Barton

(Floor). Here lieth the Body of Daniel the son of Dan. Fleming of Skirwith in the County of Cumber. Gent. who died the 23d of January 1657, being in age about 37 years. (Bp. Nic. Visit, 1703).

(In. S. urn). In memory of three Sisters whose Remains are here interred Mrs. Barbara Fleming of Cowmire Hall departed this life the 17th of November 1781 aged 81 years. Mrs. Anne Fleming died September , 2nd 1763 aged 61 years. Mrs. Isabel Fleming, died May 4th 1777 aged 73 years. These Ladies passed thro' Life much respected by their acquaintance and died in hopes of an happy Resurrection.

Here lie the Bodies of Jane Fleming and Isabella Fleming the two eldest Daus. of the Reverend . John Fleming of Rayrigg Who died in their in£ancy.

In memory of The Reverend John Fleming A.M. of Rayrigg in this Parish, Prebendary of St. Andrew's in the Cathedral of Llandaff, Rector of Bootle, Cumberland, who died at the rectory house in that parish on the 11th day of January 1835 in the 66th years. of his age. Also of Jane his wife the younger daughter of the late Peter Taylor of Whitehaven Esquire, who died at Rayrigg on November 10th 1828 in the 55th years. of her age. Also of the Reverend Fletcher Fleming late rector of Grasmere, the eldest son of the above- named Reverend John Fleming, who died at Rydal on Saturday the 11th day of November 1876 in the 82nd years. of his age.

John Fleming A.M. of Rayrigg in this parish, Prebendary of Llandaff, and Rector of Bootle in the County of Cumberland, who died in the rectory house of that parish on the eleventh day of January 1835 in the 66th years. of his age. And of Jane his wife, youngest daughter of the late Peter Taylor of Whitehaven Esqre. who died at Rayrigg on the tenth day of November . 1828 in the 55th years. of her age. Also of William Fleming their second son who died at Great Malvern on the twentieth of June 1832 in his 36th years. Also of Peter Joseph Fleming their fourth son, Lieutenant of the 55th Regt. who died at Burrackpore on the twenty-second day of July 1833 in his 31st years. Also of Richard Fleming their seventh son who died at Dumfries on the twenty-first of March 1841 in the 30th years. of his age, and was interred in this vault. Also of Jane Fleming and Isabella Fleming their daus. who died in their infancy and were buried in the chancel of this church. Also of their youngest son Herbert Octavius Fleming, Lieutenant 28th Regt. Memory of N.I. who died of Cholera at Hurrypur in the East Indies on the second day of April 1846 aged 27 years. Also of the Reverend . John Fleming, their third son, Vicar of Llangwm, Monmouthshire, and Incumbent of Ponsonby, Cumberland, who died at the Vicarage, Llangwm, July 2nd 1857 aged 57 years. (E. end). Also of the Reverend , Fletcher Fleming late Rector of Grasmere their eldest son who died at Rayrigg on the 11th day of November 1876 aged 81, and of Catherine Emily his Wife, who died at Rayrigg on the 20th day of March 1878. (N. side). Also of the Reverend . Thomas Fleming A.M. Fellow of Pembroke College, Cambridge, their fifth son who died at Chertsey December . 20th 1867 aged 62 years. " For we through the spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith." Gal. v., 5. Also of the Reverend . George Fleming Memory of A. their sixth son who died February 10th 1844 aged 33 years. (W. end). Also of Agnes Dorothy their third daughter who was born November . 24th 1804 and died at 2, Park Villas, Barnes, Surrey, June 11th 1866.

(In. N. a bust). Sacred memory of Fletcher Raincock Esquire A.M. (second son of the late Reverend . William Raincock, A.M. rector of Ousebv, Cumberland, by Agnes, eldest daughter of the late Fletcher Fleming of Rayrigg in this parish Esquire, Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, formerly senior Fellow of Pembroke Hall, Cambridge, Recorder or Kendal and one of her Majesty’s Counsel at law for the County Palatine of Lancaster. He died at Liverpool the seventeenth of August 1840 in the seventy-second years. of his age, and was interred in the churchyard of St. James in that town, near the remains of his mother who after the death of her former husband married William Holden of Liverpool Esqre. and died the fifteenth of July 1809.

Sacred memory of Isabelia Taylor of Belfield in this parish widow of the late Peter Taylor of Whitehaven Esqre, and second daughter of the late Fletcher Fleming of Rayrigg Esqre, who died at Belfield on the 13th day of February 1826 in her 77th years. Also of Isabella Agnes Taylor eldest daughter of the said Peter Taylor, and Isabella his wife who died in this village on the 27th day of September 1837 in her 67th years. Also of their eldest son Joseph Taylor 1st Lieutenant of H.M.S. Cleopatra, who fell in a naval engagement off the island of Cuba on the 22nd day of March 1801 in the 30th years. of his age. And of their second son Fletcher le Fleming Taylor 1st Lieutenant of H.M.S. La Virtu who fell a sacrifice to the yellow fever on the 5th day of June 1809 in the 28th years. of his age and was buried at Port Royal.
