Westmorland Church Notes - Walton


Walton Brough

(In. S. Aisle). Sacred memory of Thomas Morrin, many years. a merchant in London, who died in King Street, Cheapside, in that City, the 27th day of November 1842 aged 83 years. ., his remains are interred with those of his late wife and infant son in the church of Saint Benet Gracechurch Street, close to the East wall of the Tower thereof. He was the Eldest and last surviving son of the late David Morrin of Hilbeck in this parish who died the 5th day of June 1810 aged 85 years. , whose remains lie in the adjoining Churchyard, and Grandson of the late Thomas Morrin of Glengaber in the parish of Holywood in Dumfries-shire whose remains lie interred in Holywood churchyard. Also in Memory of Margaret the wife of the above named Thomas Morrin of London who died the 20th day of May 1817 aged 43 years. She was daughter of the late Rowland and Margaret Walton of Crackenthorpe in this County. Likewise in m. Thomas the infant son of the said Thomas and Margaret Morrin, who died the 23rd day of July 1807, aged 19 days.

(N). In L. Memory of Thomas Walton of Brough who died June 25th 1880 Aged 49 years. Also George and Robert, Twin Children of the above Who died in their Infancy. Sarah Annie second daughter of the above, Thomas Walton who died February 18th 1886 Aged 16 years.

(S. altar tomb,rail). Sacred memory of William Walton of Hillbeck who died August 30th 1807 aged 70 years. Also of Elizabeth his wife who died August 9th 1807 aged 72. (other side). In memory of William son of Willam & Elizabeth Walton who died December . 25th 1841 Aged 70 years. and of Eleanor his wife who died March 20th 1862 aged 74. (& 2 medallions of Death & Time).

Arms : Sa. 3 swams ar. webbed and beaked gu. (Walton) Coll. Arms c 37, 94, 157, 162. died 18, 103; C. F. B., A. died 1870. (Under W. window). To the Glory of God. The ancient Tower of this Church having become unsafe was taken down and rebuilt at the sole charge of Frank Atkinson Argles Esquire and Susannah his wife in the years. of our Lord 1869-1870. +.

S. m. John Walton who died at Lowther Castle December . 15th 1837 aged 26 years. Dead I am and here I mouldering lie, Conscious before of death and doomed to die, Deprived of life, to leave terrestrial pain In hopes of life revived to live again.
